VANCOUVER - The Canadiens skated at Rogers Arena on Monday morning ahead of their game against the Canucks.

Following the on-ice session, forward Tomas Tatar, defenseman Alexander Romanov, and interim head coach Dominique Ducharme spoke with reporters via Zoom.

Here are a few highlights from their respective chats:

Tatar was asked if playing in close proximity to linemates Brendan Gallagher and Phillip Danault is the key to them performing so well as a trio:

I think that's why we were so successful last game. We've been really close to each other. We support each other all over the ice, and that's something we have to do to be successful. We're trying to work hard. For that kind of game, you have to be close, be next to each other and help each other on every part of the ice.

Tatar also talked about what he believes the Canadiens must do in order to pick up where they left off against Winnipeg over the weekend:

There's a lot of new stuff with Dom. We still have a lot of plays on the ice to improve and do better. I think we're getting more comfortable with the system, which is good to see. We just want to keep building. We started somewhere and we want to push the bar higher. We were rewarded last game, which was great. But we want to be better and we want to build off it.

Romanov, meanwhile, was asked to identify what he'd like to improve going forward:

I want to improve everything in my game because I'm never happy with how I'm playing. Every single moment, every single game, I want to upgrade everything I have a little bit.

The 21-year-old rookie praised fellow rearguard Jeff Petry as well:

He's a very good player. The way he plays on the blueline, it's amazing. I want his shot and I want his moves on the blueline. It's awesome.

For his part, Ducharme explained that Romanov still has a lot of learning to do, as expected:

There isn't just one particular aspect of his game [that needs improvement]. It might sound cliché, but he's just starting out in the NHL. He has things to learn. He'll get more and more experience, both offensively and defensively. You can't buy experience. He's heading in the right direction. He just has to keep on playing the way he's been playing.

Ducharme also shared some of the Canadiens' keys to a successful road trip:

If we look at our last four games, we're heading in the right direction. We just want to build off that. We picked up five out of a possible six points at home. That's six points out of eight in our last four games. We're continuing to improve on what we've put in place. We talk about details. We have to continue working on our game.
