MGOLF Finishes 6th at the Thunderbird Collegiate - BaylorBears.com

PHOENIX, Ariz.– Baylor men's golf notched its second-best stroke-play finish of the season on Saturday with a 6-under 846 at the Thunderbird Collegiate.

Top-ranked Oklahoma won the event with a 31-under 821. Every team that finished in the top-5 ahead of the Bears is ranked in the top seven in the country.

Johnny Keefer climbed eight spots to finish tied for 7th with a 9-under 204 thanks to a bogey-free 66 in the final round. Keefer started his round with a bang, carding an eagle, his second of the week. Another birdie at No. 9 put him at 3-under through nine before adding two more birdies at Nos. 13 and 15 to secure his second-best round of the season.

Mark Reppe finished in the top 25 for a second-straight event with a tie for 22nd following a 1-under 212 following his 1-under 70 on Saturday. After carding three birdies in his first nine holes, the senior bounced back with a birdie at No. 10 and two more at Nos. 14 and 15 for his fifth round of 70 or better this season.

Luke Dossey set a new career-best with a 4-under 67 to climb into a tie for 32nd on the final day. The junior was even-par through four holes until back-to-back birdies at Nos. 5 and 6 and an eagle at No. 9 put him at 4-under through nine holes. Two more birdies at Nos. 11 and 15 saw him climb to 6-under before bogeys at 17 and 18 dropped him back to 4-under for the day and 1-over for the tournament.

Zach Heffernan played as an individual this week and finished 68th, following a 4-over 75 in the final round. The freshman started strong with an eagle at the first and birdie at the second, but bogeys at Nos 4, 7, 8, 10 and 14, along with a double-bogey at the 18th, dropped him to 68th.

Drew Wrightson carded a counting score for a third-straight round, with a 3-over 74 on Saturday, his first tournament where all three rounds counted towards the team score. After a couple of early bogeys, the freshman carded a birdie to close out the front nine with a 1-over 37. Following a triple bogey-bogey start to the second nine, Wrightson made birdies at 14 and 15 to climb back to 3-over for the round and 10-over for the tournament in a tie for 75th.

Luke Morgan also finished in a tie for 75th, following a 6-over 77 on Saturday. Morgan closed his opening nine with a birdie to get to 3-over before a pair of double-bogeys dropped him to 7-over on the round.
