Here are the top stories today in Tampa:
1. The 53rd annual commencement for Hillsborough Community College will be held on Friday, May 6, in the Expo Hall of the Florida State Fairgrounds. This year's commencement speaker is Shilen Patel, chief executive officer and founder of HealthAxis. The student speaker is Melany Ysabel Sampi Bravo, an international student from Peru who has earned an associate in arts degree in political science. (Tampa Patch)
2. Florida Sweeties You-Pick Farms is located in the St. Joe community in Pasco County, north of San Antonio. Their Peachy Keen orchard is scheduled open this weekend for families and individuals who register through their Facebook page. (WFLA)
3. The St. Petersburg Police Department came now out in force on Tuesday, cracking down on speeders and says they are targeting some of the most dangerous intersections in the city. Police say said they had already written 212 citations and given 32 warnings by the afternoon on Tuesday. (WTSP)
4. LiveNation and Hot 101.5-FM announced plans to team up with Crunch Fitness to throw a birthday party for Lizzo, who is headed to Tampa this fall for a concert. The event is today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is free, open to the public, and happening at Crunch's Channelside location near downtown Tampa. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
5. Over the next two decades, Tampa International Airport is projecting an average of 880,000 new passengers each year. That would take the hub from 21.2 million passengers this year to 38.8 million in 2042, 20-year increase of 83 percent. Changes are required to prepare for the increased demand.
