Moviegoers better get ready for an epic ride — Imperator Furiosa is back.

May kicks off an exciting summer season at the box office, starting off with the Anya Taylor-Joy led "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel to 2015's "Mad Max: Fury Road."

"This is the story of one woman’s relentless commitment to hope – and that hope is not quashed," Taylor-Joy said during a Warner Bros. panel.

Who is Anya Taylor-Joy? Is she from Florida?

Anya Taylor-Joy is an actress most known for her roles in The Queen's Gambit (2020), The Witch (2015), Split (2016), and The Menu (2022). Most recently, she was cast as Alia Atreides in Dune 2.

And technically, yes! She is a Floridian.

Taylor-Joy was born in Miami on April 16, 1996; however was raised in both Argentina and England growing. In a Vulture interview, she said her birth was a "fluke" during a vacation, which ended up giving her U.S. citizenship.

What is 'Furiosa' about?

Per USA Today's description, Anya Taylor-Joy stars as a younger Furiosa (originally portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2025) who's violently taken from her home by a biker horde and vows vengeance on over-the-top warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).

George Miller, the director who kicked off his doomsday franchise with Mel Gibson in 1979's "Mad Max," returns to direct the Furiosa prequel. He has also directed or co-directed the three sequels: Mad Max 2 (1981), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).

After wrapping the film, Taylor-Joy gave details about her experiences on the set of "Furiosa" during an interview with IndieWire.

"I've been on a different planet for the last seven months," she said. "I think I need to sit down and attempt to try and digest what's happened over the last seven months. But I'm incredibly, incredibly proud of it, and so proud of all of the people I got to work with, and just the amount of love and effort and work that went into it, I'm excited to see it.

It's the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely saying something."

Was Furiosa in the original Mad Max?

Fans of "Mad Max: Fury Road" will be excited for expansion of a beloved character.

While she wasn't in the original trilogy, Imperator Furiosa was first introduced in the 2015 movie. Portrayed by Theron, she serves as an officer for Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) but turns against him to free "The Five Wives," which are Joe's female sex slaves.

Who else stars in 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga?'

Along with Taylor-Joy, the prequel stars Marvel's Chris Hemsworth as the movie's villain, Dr. Dementus. Hemsworth told multiple outlets this character was a challenge from his usual roles.

"I wasn't sure what I was going to do," he told Entertainment Weekly. "It was starting to get scary the closer I got to shooting. Then, all of a sudden, it clicked, and it was one of the best experiences I've had."
