Dying Teen's Last Words Identify Her Suspected Killers

A dying teen's last words in California reportedly helped authorities identify two people suspected of her murder after she was stabbed and dragged herself 100 yards to a road.

Authorities said that after being stabbed several times, Lizetta Andrea Cuesta, 19, of Tracy, crawled the length of a football field along a darken road near Interstate 580 after 2 a.m. after she was dumped there from a car, KCRA-TV reported.

Two passing motorists found Cuesta, and she was flown by helicopter to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where she died two hours later, the sheriff's office said, per KCRA-TV.

Richard Loadholt, one of the motorists who found Cuesta told KCRA that he tried to keep her talking and awake.

"I just felt compelled by the spirit of love to do that," he said.

Before she died, authorities said she identified one of the alleged suspects. Alameda County Sheriff investigators arrested Daniel Gross, 19, and Melissa Leonardi, 25, both of Modesto, California, in connection with Cuesta's death, the Alameda County Sheriff Office said in a tweet.

"Those were her last words," Alameda County Sheriff Sgt. Ray Kelly said, according to KCRA-TV. "And we used that information to make these arrests."

Ray Cuesta, the victim's father, called his daughter "his angel," KPIX-TV reported.

"She was always a fighter," Ray Cuesta told the television station. "She was always brave, strong. She was a leader; a go getter. I'm proud of her. She didn't give up. She won. She showed them.

"I know she passed away, but when they did this to her, they figured they got away with it. She didn't let them get away with it. She brought peace to herself and peace to me and my family. I love her," he continued.
