Stipe Miocic’s future in the octagon is set.
The UFC heavyweight champion fights light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier July 7 in Las Vegas at UFC 226. It’s a super fight between two champions.
If Miocic wins that bout, his next could be the biggest ever.
WWE champion Brock Lesnar and former UFC heavyweight champ is rumored to return to the sport after Wrestlemania 34 on April 8 in New Orleans. Earlier this month, UFC president Dana White said chances of Lesnar’s return are “very, very, very good.”

Meanwhile, Lesnar’s WWE contract is believed to expire after Wrestlemania 24, where the champ will take on Roman Reigns.
If and when Miocic and Lesnar fight, it should be one of the biggest fights in UFC history. Miocic’s friend Mike Croston is ready for it, and he made a point to send a message to Lesnar, who made an appearance March 26 at Quicken Loans Arena for “WWE Raw.”
Croston, seated ringside at The Q, brought a sign to the event, and when Lesnar came to the ring for a segment, he revealed it to the TV audience. The sign read, “Lesnar fears Stipe.”
Croston, originally from Westpark and now living in the Parma area, said Lesnar saw the sign, and gave it a smirk. Moments later, a WWE official made Croston put away the sign, but the official did not confiscate it.
“It’s still in my basement,” said Croston, who texted Miocic earlier in the day of the sign. “I think since it was a WWE event and my sign was about the UFC they didn’t want it shown on TV.”
Too late. A photo of Croston holding the sign with Lesnar in it immediately went viral. The champ appreciated the love. Miocic tweeted the photo with the message, “LESNAR FEARS STIPE. My fans are awesome!”
Miocic’s tweet generated more than 12,000 retweets and likes.
“I just wanted to have fun with (the sign),” said Croston. “I think everyone wants to see that fight. Stipe will win, and then he can retire and walk off into the sunset as champion.”
Lesnar last fought in the UFC in 2016. He defeated Mark Hunt by a majority decision at UFC 200, and reportedly earned $2.5 million. Days after that bout, Lesnar tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, and returned to the WWE.
Almost two years later, Lesnar appears ready to return to the UFC, and that means talks of a bout with Miocic — should he defeat Cormier — will surely be a hot topic.
Miocic said of Lesnar before he tested positive: “I’d fight anyone.”
Then after Lesnar tested positive: “I’m the champ,” said Miocic. “I don’t care what (Lesnar) does. Unfortunately for him, he did some things he shouldn’t have done. He’ll probably be gone for a long time and probably won’t fight again (in the UFC).”
Those Miocic comments are almost two years old. If Miocic wins his next bout, expect those Lesnar-Miocic rumors to get kicked into high gear.
