PEEKSKILL - City residents experienced a close encounter of the third kind earlier this summer — and these alien beings brought the funk.
“It was quite an experience," said Wendie Garber, owner of the Flat Iron Gallery.
Garber was in her downtown gallery when she heard loud music coming from the street near the Peekskill Coffee House.
"I thought, is someone blaring music out of their car window," she said.
It's common for street musicians to play on the weekends, she said, but less so on a weekday, on June 27.

"So I went outside," she said, "and I was totally amused. They grabbed everyone by surprise.” Garber recorded the five-piece band on her cellphone camera and posted the video to Facebook. To date, it's attracted 3.4 million views.
Garber said the impromptu concert was a welcome break from everyday life.
“We’ve all been so stressed out with the stuff in the news," she said. "It’s been a real challenge these past years with the election.
"Everybody was immediately alive again. Laughing, dancing. It was a shot in the arm," she added.
Turns out, the musicians weren't alien at all. Big Nazo is a self-described "extraterrestrial creature spectacle, space-funk dance party" based in Providence, Rhode Island.
In an email to The Journal News/lohud, the band said they were on tour and stopped in small towns "just for the sake of bringing free, unexpected surprise, confusion and joy to regular folks on a average ordinary day."
Garber said the band played for upward of 15 minutes and roughly 30 people came out from the nearby theater, cafe and offices to watch the concert.
“We want them to come back," she said. "We loved it. We want more.”
