President claims his father was born in Germany — but birth certificate says otherwise

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump has been caught telling yet another whopper after claiming his father was born in Germany.

During his recent visit to Europe, the 72-year-old insisted in an interview with CBS Newsthat both his parents originated from countries which now belong to the European Union.

“Don’t forget both my parents were born in EU sectors, okay? I mean, my mother was Scotland, my father was Germany,” he said.

“And you know I love those countries.”

In that interview, Mr Trump stated that the EU was one of America’s biggest enemies, although he stressed his own personal affection for the region.

And he continued with the odd claim during a media conference following the NATO summit in the Belgian capital Brussels, saying: “I have great respect for Germany. My father is from Germany.

“Both my parents are from the EU, despite the fact that they don’t treat us well on trade,” he said.

There’s only one problem — his father Frederick Trump was actually born in The Bronx in New York City in 1905.

And there’s photographic evidence of Trump Sr’s birth certificate to prove it, thanks to an investigation by The Smoking Gun.

A reporter from the publication found the document recently after sifting through Department of Health microfilm reels at New York City’s Municipal Archives, which proves that once again, POTUS has been busted telling porkies.

The certificate proves the elder Trump was born at 539 East 177 Street to German immigrant parents Elisabeth and Friedrich Trump, who immigrated to the US in the late 19th century.

But the President’s claim about his own father’s birth are all the more bizarre given he relentlessly pressured former president Barack Obama to make his own birth certificate public for years on end.

That campaign related to the common rumour that Obama was actually born in Kenya — his father Barack Obama Sr’s country of origin — and not in Hawaii as claimed.

If true, it would have ruled him out of the presidential race, as a US leader must be born on home soil, according to the US Constitution.

Trump’s latest untruth has been met with confusion and amusement on social media — although many believe he chose to lie about his father’s birth in a bid to soften the blow of his tough anti-Europe stance.
