Every day at 3:35 p.m. a group of Booker T. Washington student's walk home joined by their principal, Mark Davis.
"He's making sure we're alright while we are walking," said Day'leona Isham, a student at Booker T. Washington.
Just recently a photo of Davis walking a group of students went viral on social media, leaving Davis speechless.
"Honestly everyone who knows me knows I'm a private person," said Davis. "I try to keep everything private and someone sent me a screen shot to my cell phone and I was just surprised."
The photo was liked on Facebook by thousands and many commented Davis is a true leader.
The student's he walks with after school agree and are thankful.
"Because the principal is taking his time walking us home and making sure we are being safe and make sure nothing happens to us," said Day'leona.
Most days these students are walked by Davis and the student success coordinator.
The students are dropped off at what is known as the skateboard hill and after that, the students head their separate ways.
"It's a team effort," said Davis. "From the assistant principal to all of my teachers, to the day custodian to my office and my cafeteria manager."
For these students, this extra task really means a lot to them.
"He loves all the kids at the school," said Day'leona. "He makes sure we are safe and make sure we walk without bullying, without fighting, without cussing."
Through this act, Davis hopes these kids realize they are all on the same path.
"I know our kids are a lot younger than we are but we want to let them know we were where yall {students} are at some point in our life and we are all going towards the same goal and there is no reason why you can't be me or be better than me. I think they are happy that we are walking with them," said Davis.
Davis has been walking kids after school throughout his Elementary career. Including the two years, he's been at Booker T. Washington.
