McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy responded to a viral video on Facebook from over the weekend that shows a county inmate in bad condition.

Erica Miller says she took this video of Chris Mcclure Sunday morning at the McMinn County Jail.

She says McClure is the father of her daughter.

McMinn County Jail records show McClure was booked into the jail on August 23 on charges he sold meth and violated probation.

Miller says McClure was assaulted at the jail Thursday night and taken to the hospital, but she tells NewsChannel 9 he's not getting the medical treatment he needs.

"I do not know much about his medical condition because it is hard to understand him when he talks," Miller says. "But I do know that he has tubes in his nose and can not see with his left eye and good right eye is blurry."

Miller tells NewsChannel 9 she is not clear on the details of the assault. She says she was told McClure won't be able to press charges until after he is released from jail.

As of Monday morning, Miller's video has been shared more than 1500 times on Facebook.

Hours after the video was shared on social media, Sheriff Joe Guy posted this statement on Facebook:

The statement reads, "While I cannot comment on specic [sic] inmate medical issues due to HIPAA laws, I will stand by our jail medical staff and my officers. McMinn Co has some of the best inmate health care around, and inmates who become sick or injured while in custody receive prompt and adequate care. Inmates who are seen by a hospital and released are returned to custody with follow up appointments if requested by the inmates physician. We care for sick inmates every day, and have a great record of doing so.

I might also mention that taking a cell phone into our visitation area is against our visitation rules, and photographs and videos taken inside a corrections facility can be illegal. Persons doing so, and who post such pictures and video, especially in a misleading way, will be banned from visitation, and if the District Attorney General agrees, may have charges placed against them."

In response to this post, Miller tells NewsChannel 9 "Sheriff Joe Guy is trying to turn the blame on me simply because I broke a rule to expose the jail for what it really is. They should be ashamed of themselves. What if that was his father or mother or child that this happened to. I'm just upset."

This is a developing story and will be updated.
