President Trump has frequently commented on the anthem issue, making it a key point in his rallies held across the country. The league had planned to institute a new rule requiring players be on the field -- and standing -- during the anthem, but that has been put on hold, multiple outlets reported.
Kaepernick is one of several faces of Nike’s 30th anniversary campaign for its signature three-word catchphrase.
According to ESPN, Serena Williams, LeBron James, Shaquem Griffin, Lacey Baker and Odell Beckham Jr. are also connected to the Just Do It campaign.
Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season, has had a Nike endorsement deal since 2011.
The company has not featured the former quarterback in the past two years, ESPN reported. "We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward," Gino Fisanotti, Nike's vice president of brand for North America, told the sports network on Monday.
