Cleveland Browns kicker and former Arizona State standout Zane Gonzalez has had a rough of start to his season.
Gonzalez, the NCAA record-holder for most career field goals, missed a 52-yard attempt wide-right with seconds left that would have sent the Browns into overtime against the Saints. Instead, New Orleans came away with a 21-18 victory.
It was the second missed attempt of the day. He also missed two extra points, an eight-point deficit on the day.
After the game, Saints kicker Wil Lutz comforted Gonzalez on the sideline in an image that went viral.
"At the end of the day it’s not “just a game” to us, this is our livelihood," Lutz tweeted. "Our careers rely on personal performance, as does everyone else’s. I will never pull for someone to fail, as I know I will too. I hope to see nothing more than Zane have an amazing career going forward."
In Week 1, Gonzalez had a chance to end the Browns 16-game losing streak against division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, but had his game-winning attempt blocked from 43 yards.
By Monday morning, ESPN reported that the Browns would be looking to make a change at kicker.
Last season, Gonzalez made 15 of his 20 field goal attempts while going 25 of 26 on extra points.
