Fight video at Columbia Place Mall goes viral

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- A video of what appears to be two young women fighting at the Columbia Place Mall is making its way across the internet.

A Facebook post was made around 4 o' clock this past Friday afternoon showing the altercation and has quickly been shared thousands of times on social media.

One store manager, Carl Chambers, says the fight happened right in front of his store, Jimmy Jazz.

"All I know is they were arguing, they were loud," said Chambers. "Kinda rambunctious. By the time we got to the door, they started fighting. The fight went on for about 3 minutes before anybody stopped it."

Chambers, who has worked at the mall for years, says these types of incidents have been occurring in the mall more and more in recent months.

"I feel like this mall is going down," said Chambers. "A lot because of the crime, a lot of violence and things that go down here."

WACH FOX reached out to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, who did confirm that they have deputies on security at the mall on Friday evenings, and most of the day Saturdays and Sundays.

According to the department, deputies were made aware of the incident but said it was dispersed by the time they arrived on scene. Officials also confirmed that no incident report was made by any of the parties involved.

Back in April, two people were injured after a shooting that happened in Columbia Place. A nineteen-year-old was arrested.

Chambers says that he hopes that things turn around at the mall before it closes for good.

"We have people of all ages that come and shop here and we want our customers to feel comfortable shopping here," said Chambers.
