LOS ANGELES — Zach Swartz and Sammy Silverman are sitting in a coffee shop in the lobby of the InterContinental Downtown L.A. hotel as Ed Sheeran plays over the speakers. Swartz is wearing a scarlet and white striped Ohio State polo with a College Football Playoff logo on the sleeve. Silverman is wearing the same black Nike OSU sweatsuit that some of the Buckeyes defensive players were wearing the day before at a round of pre-Rose Bowl interviews.

If it wasn’t for the Block O on their shirts and the fact they were sitting in the team hotel, there would be no reason to think that either plays an integral part in the Ohio State football operation.

Swartz’s title is director, creative media and post production. Silverman’s is director, creative design and branding. Their game is recruiting. More specifically, it’s marketing and brand strategy.
