Nation remembers Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 122nd birth anniversary today

Nation remembered India's great freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 122nd birth anniversary today. It was on this day in 1897, Netaji was born at Cuttack in Odisha. He formed the Indian National Army or INA also known as the Azad Hind Fauj to fight the British. 

A number of functions were organised in different parts of the country to mark the occasion. Special programmes are also being held at Netaji's birthplace. 

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Netaji.

Leaders of different political parties offered floral tributes to Netaji at the Central Hall of Parliament this morning. They include senior BJP leader L K Advani, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel. 

On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Subhash Chandra Bose museum at Red Fort in New Delhi. The Museum provides a detailed account on Netaji and the history of Indian National Army. It also showcases various artefacts related to Subhash Chandra Bose and INA.

Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated three other museums built within the Red Fort complex. These include the Yaad-e-Jallian Museum on Jallianwala Bagh and World War I, the Museum on 1857- India's first war of Independence and Drishyakala-Museum on Indian Art. 

Later in a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said, it was extremely humbling for him to inaugurate four museums relating to India's rich history and culture. He said the entire complex of museums will be known as Kranti Mandir as a tribute to the revolutionary zeal and courage of the great freedom fighters. Mr Modi said museums on Netaji and Azad Hind Fauj are a key part of Kranti Mandir. 

The Prime Minister urged art lovers to visit Drishyakala, which will take people through the finest aspects of Indian art and culture. There are four historical exhibitions, spanning three centuries, with over 450 works of art. 

Mr Modi said the works of eminent Indian artists like Raja Ravi Varma, Gurudev Tagore, Amrita Sher-Gil, Abanindranath Tagore, Nandlal Bose, Gaganendranath Tagore, Sailoz Mookherjea and Jamini Roy are on display at the exhibition. He said Gurudev Tagore’s works at Drishyakala is a treat for art lovers to see.
