Jesus Uribe Orozco, born this morning at 6:39 a.m., was the first baby born at the Cedar City Hospital in 2019.
Jesus Orozco was born to Cecilia and David Orozco, weighing six pounds, 12 ounces. He is their fifth child, preceded by his brother David, age 9, and sisters Monserrat, 6, Maritza, 10, and Jazmin, 11.
Cecilia Orozco said the birth happened quite quickly.
“I started having contractions at about 3 a.m. this morning and then came to the hospital about 5:50 a.m.,” she said. “But by then I had already dilated to a seven, and there wasn’t time even for an epidural. Forty minutes later Jesus was born.”
Mother and child are doing well. The family has lived in Cedar City for 13 years and enjoy the area. Cecilia Orozco also expressed her appreciation for the doctors and staff of Women and Newborns at the hospital.
“I want to thank Dr. (Travis) Bilanzich and all the nurses and staff at Cedar City Hospital,” she said. “They treat you so nice and help you so much. It’s been exciting to have the New Year Baby.”
The hospital reported 842 births in 2018, which is the same number of births as in 2017.
