Video of South Hill officer playing dolls with neighborhood kids goes viral - WSET

SOUTH HILL, Va. (WSET) -- The video of a police officer in South Hill playing with kids in a neighborhood is going viral for a good reason.

Iesha Roper-Boswell posted video and photos of South Hill Police Officer C.B. Fleming laying on the ground playing dolls with two girls in his community.

Police were called to an apartment complex on Valentine's Day to investigate a gas leak when Officer Fleming spotted children playing outside.

"He's awesome. That's the only word you can really use to describe C.B.," Roper-Boswell told WTVR. "It's just amazing, the bond he has with the children."

She said the kids in the community consider Fleming a superhero.

When the gas leak was determined to be a false alarm, Fleming said he wanted to make sure the children felt safe, so he laid down on the sidewalk and played dolls with the two girls.

The video that Roper-Boswell took has now been viewed thousands of times.

"It's something I've always tried to do," Fleming said. "When I got into this job, I knew there was something different, other than just writing tickets and being the bad person all the time. I figured if I could be that bright spot in someone's day then that's all that mattered."

Roper-Boswell told WTVR that she believes Fleming's genuine care came through in her photos and she's thankful that interactions like this happen in her community.

"For him to make my child feel like she's safe, she doesn't even have to call 911, she just has to call C.B. if she's in trouble. I'm glad he made this part of his job," she said. "He's changed my daughter and niece's lives."

Fleming said he wants everyone to know that they can count on him.
