I identify with Captain America here. Mrs. Augustine understands this well, knowing some missionary kids (including her husband). She pointed out that Cap speaks for every MK here. So many things people in America say are so weird. But once in a while, we get to say “Hey, I got one! I understood that reference!”
It’s true for grown-ups, too. Mrs. Augustine and I experienced this together.
You know how it is: One year you’re flying to Asia for your job, and the next year you find yourselves in the Texas home of some relations whose minds are now inexplicably filled with notions of the cultural importance of mustaches, something called “Gangnam Style,” and something about ducks and television and men with large beards.
But once in a while, you experience a triumph: Something you didn’t miss out on while you were working in Pakistan or growing up in Africa comes up and you get to say, “I get it! I understood that reference!”
