Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou or like everyone knows him as George Michael was born on this very day in June in the year 1963. He was one of the best-selling English Pop music artists of all time. He was British and was a hit in the UK and the US much throughout the 80s and the 90s. His debut in the 80s was made when he collaborated with Andrew Ridgeley to form WHAM. WHAM released several tracks that made it to the no 1 on the Music charts of both the US and the UK. The most famous tracks by WHAM were “Wake me up before you go-go” and “Last Christmas”.
WHAM rose up to fame as a duo but it was George Michael who grabbed all the limelight. They were one of the only bands back then who were allowed to perform in China. It took their manager 18 months to convince the Chinese authorities to let them perform in China. China was known to have many kinds of Music to be banned before WHAM had performed in China. It was quite a feat that George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley had achieved.
George Michael was always the front man for the duo WHAM. Which encouraged him to start a solo career of his own by the end of the 80s. But WHAM did not split on a sour note. In fact, its is one of the splits that you can cherish forever. They released a track called “The Edge of Heaven” and a compilation called “The Final”. They even performed one last concert in the Wembley Stadium which was completely sold out. Their track “The edge of Heaven” also dominated the Charts in the UK for a very long time.

George Michael then went solo his tracks like Careless Whisper and Father figure have now become timeless classics with even the current generation humming the tunes of these songs. Like many musicians of that time George Michael too dealt with issues of substance abuse and bouts with the law. It was probably this kind of abuse on the body that made him take a journey beyond the seven skies at the early age of 53.

He died on 25 December 2016 at his Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England home. That was his Last Christmas. The person who sang and performed a track called “Last Christmas” left for his heavenly abode on that exact same day Christmas. He was been since then fondly remembered. Many artistes paid tribute to George Michael post his demise. The reason for his death was ascertained as natural causes.
