Cuomo breaks silence on viral 'Fredo' video - Washington Examiner

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo released a statement Tuesday on Twitter in response to the viral video of a heated confrontation between him and an agitator that surfaced the day before.

"Appreciate all the support but - truth is I should be better than the guys baiting me," Cuomo tweeted Tuesday. "This happens all the time these days. Often in front of my family. But there is a lesson: no need to add to the ugliness; I should be better than what I oppose."

Cuomo received support from many in media after he used threatening language in response to a man calling him "Fredo," which he argued was an offense on par with the N-word. Fox News anchor Sean Hannity argued that the agitator was "being a jackass in front of his family" and that he "has zero to apologize for."

Similarly, Republican Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy said Cuomo "did nothing wrong here. He was clearly provoked, in front of his kids no less."

CNN also defended the network's prime-time host.

“Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup,” Matt Dornic, a network spokesman said.
