The power of social media, believe it or not, can prove to have positive results from time to time.
So often, viral posts tend to lead to negative consequences in sports.
It’s a nice change of pace to see when the opposite takes place.
On Friday, after an initial Facebook post weeks ago, a 9-year-old Alabama boy met his idol, LSU coach Ed Orgeron.
Colton Moore, born with Spina Bifida, has had 38 surgeries in nine years and is in a wheelchair.
“He’s my hero,” Orgeron said earlier this week, per WBRZ. “Just to hear the things that he’s been through and how much he loves the Tigers and he listens to every interview.”
WAFB reports Orgeron gave Moore LSU gear, and Moore was in attendance Saturday when LSU beat Utah State 42-6.
“As we sat down and watched Colton do his thing, it was hard to fight back the tears sometimes,” Jennifer Moore told WAFB earlier this week. “They just came out, and I couldn’t get them stopped.”
Jennifer Moore posted a picture of his first day of school on Facebook where Colton had LSU gear. The post went viral.
Jennifer Moore explained, via Facebook, Colton became an LSU fan in 2017 when they got SEC baseball tournament tickets in Hoover. After LSU played Arkansas, Colton and his family waited by the team bus to meet the Tigers. That’s where it started.
Then, according to Jennifer Moore, Colton was watching LSU football and was drawn to Orgeron.
Colton certainly caught the Tigers are on a good day.
Joe Burrow became the first LSU quarterback to eclipse 300 yards passing in four straight games and threw for five touchdowns to help the fifth-ranked Tigers defeat Utah State 42-6 on Saturday.
Burrow completed 27 of 38 passes for 344 yards and was intercepted once on a tipped pass against Utah State before being replaced by Myles Brennan on LSU's second series of the fourth quarter. Burrow also rushed for 42 yards and touchdown.
Justin Jefferson caught two scoring passes for LSU (5-0). His second TD on a 39-yard throw was the completion on which Burrow surpassed 300 yards. Burrow’s other TD strikes went to Derrick Dillon, JaMarr Chase and tight end Thaddeus Moss.
