L.A.-via-Paris producer UZ is one of the biggest names in trap music and also one of the most technically skilled. Prior to his career as UZ, he was known as DJ Troubl' where he became a DMC turntable champion.

Just today, UZ released his new single "I Can," which features Cleveland-born rapper Twnty8. “I Can” has an overall dark feel, and Twnty8’s smooth flow suits the song perfectly.

“UZ got in touch with me through his Twitter,” says Twnty8, who lived in Cleveland until he was 16 and currently calls Columbus home. “He wanted to work with a rapper and I had some friends sending him music. He saw something he liked and reached out to me through Twitter. He emailed me the beat. I don’t like working on things unless it’s naturally. If things don’t come to me right away, I don’t like it. He sent it to me and they told me his style was EDM or trap. The first thing when I heard it is what came out and what you hear on the track.”

The accompanying music video matches the song’s cryptic vibes. It’s set in a vast, empty desert, and Twnty8 raps his verses as UZ walks around him with a shovel in hand.

“I've shot a bunch of music videos and this is my favorite,” says Twnty8. “It’s an amazing experience. We were in the middle of the desert. That’s a different experience. It’s very quiet and isolated.”

Twnty8 started rapping when he was 16, and he moved out of his mother’s house two years later. He’s floated from city to city ever since.

“I’ve been at this for 11 years now,” he says, adding that he has an album due out next month. “I’m going through the struggles that every artist goes through.”

The UZ collaboration should certainly help generate some wider interest in his music.
