Sebastian Payne quotes “trade experts” who state that “such deals typically take five to seven years to complete” (“Conservatives’ Brexit pledge leaves door open to no-deal”, November 25).

The entire Congress of Vienna, which settled the fate of the world and brought peace for about one century, took from September 1814 to June 1815 — nine months — to negotiate. That included the considerable distraction of Napoleon’s return and the Battle of Waterloo.

Trade experts? Give me a break.
