Jason Gough's forecast: This week? Born to be mild - Times Union

Took a few days to get out of the freezer, but yesterday's highs in the 30s and 40s were just the beginning of some milder weather on tap.

Today will be the mildest of all.

All in all however, it's been a rather chilly December. I wrote a piece on that and more, and hope you enjoy it!

Full disclosure, I thoroughly enjoy writing these: I get into the numbers of the month for both temperatures and snowfall and put it into the bigger picture. You'll also get a full handle on our Christmas weather in years past as well as the whole notion of a white Christmas.

And now, on with the forecast

Fascinating temperature map this morning from NYS Mesonet. They're all over the place — a 24-degree difference within Albany County between Voorheesville's 17 degrees and Medusa's 41 degrees is pretty stark considering those communities are only 18 miles apart!

We'll have lots of sunshine today, along with a southwest breeze. That's a nice combination any time of year, especially in late December. Highs today will top out in the 40s, with a few low 50s around too.

A cold front comes through tonight, bringing only a brief shot of gusty northwest winds around midnight along with a few scattered clouds.

Tuesday

We'll have a mix of sun and clouds for tomorrow, a great day and night to be out and about if that's in your plans.  With a light breeze, highs will top out about 10 degrees cooler than today, settling in the low to the upper 30s.  No issues for the big guy tomorrow night either.

Wednesday

Christmas Day will be another nice one, and certainly on the milder side as the days go.  (Read more about our Christmas weather, including snow and temperatures, right here).  There will also be a mix of sun and clouds. The high temperatures will top out in the 30s to 40 degrees.

After a quiet Thursday with increasing afternoon clouds, our weather break comes to a close. Light snow and sleet will roll in overnight into early Friday. The rest of the day brings some light snow, sleet, and rain in for the day. As far as the precipitation, light is the operative word. Highs will be in the 30s.

Into the weekend, Saturday looks dry but Sunday remains uncertain. It looks like we'll have some weather to deal with, but the question remains whether it's colder with light snow and sleet or milder with a steadier rain. Stay tuned, things will come better into focus in the next couple of days.

Have a great day, and enjoy the "mild" and the sunshine!
