Today in History: June 13 - MSN Money

The world’s first real automobile race, held from Paris to Bordeaux and back covering a distance of 732 miles (1,178 kilometers), was completed on this day – two days after it began. Émile Levassor and Rene Panhard, driving a Panhard et Levassor car, completed the course in nearly 48 hours at a speed of about 15 mph (24 kph). However, Levassor was disqualified on a technicality and the first place went to a Paul Koechlin who drove a Peugeot that finished 11 hours behind him.
