Soon-to-be NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. now has yet another accolade to add to his long and impressive resume of life accomplishments: Two time Dad.
On Thursday's edition of the Dale Jr Download, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced that his second child, a baby girl named Nicole Lorraine, was born on Monday. The baby is the second of Earnhardt's two daughters, joining two-year old Isla.
"Happens all the time. All over the country, all over the world. It feels a little weird to get congratulated," said Earnhardt. "Amy had a pretty good pregnancy. She said it felt like it was a long one because of COVID and all that, but we aren't gonna complain because we've got a healthy baby girl."
Many people are wondering why this episode of the Download is late this week. Well, there’s a good reason.

In settling on a name, Earnhardt explained that Nicole and Lorraine are both family names, with Nicole being the middle name of wife Amy and Lorraine the middle name of Earnhardt's mother Brenda Jackson, who died of cancer in 2019. This is a departure from the naming process for Isla, which did not involve family history. The couple is still trying to settle on exactly what Nicole Lorraine will be called.
"It's funny how you choose the name. It's not an easy process," said Earnhardt. "It's funny because you're not gonna choose it - the wife's gonna choose it - but then, you're involved but you're not choosing it. So it's kind of a one foot in, one foot out kind of thing for the guy. It's an odd position to be in."
Earnhardt, a third generation racer and the son of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Dale Earnhardt, started his family following the end of his 18-year career in Cup Series competition. He has since run one race a year annually in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, finishing fourth at Richmond in 2018, fifth at Darlington in 2019, and fifth at Homestead-Miami this past June.
Although Earnhardt's results suggest he still has his driving chops after concussion issues forced his retirement from racing full-time, he acknowledged in June that he isn't sure how much longer he'll continue his one-off racing schedule.
"I don't know how many more of these I'll do, this might be the last one," said Earnhardt. "And this ain't no tease or anything like that, I'm not trying to be annoying about that. It's a lot of a commitment, and I just don't know. It's getting to the point to where I've got to decide whether I'm helping things or I'm not helping the team, how can I help the team in other ways. I don't know.
"I really enjoy it, I really do. But I think there's got to be a point to where I decide to make the change to broadcasting entirely. With that said though, being in the car today I certainly learned a ton that's gonna help me in the booth. I've just got to think about it. I certainly don't want to run more. One is plenty ... We'll just see how it goes."
Now a broadcaster for NBC Sports in addition to his own Dirty Mo Media, Earnhardt was recently named to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2020.
