Mikio Kato

Mikio “Miki” Kato, 92, formerly of Puuwaawaa, died Nov. 7, 2020, at his residence in Hawi. Born June 19, 1928, in Kealakekua, he retired from the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife, a paniolo with Puuwaawaa Ranch and member of the Akitsu Gumi Association, Paniolo Preservation Society, and Hiroshima Kenjinkai.

Private services. The family requests no koden (monetary offerings) or flowers.

He is survived by spouse, Ellen Kato of Hawi; son, Glenn (Denise) of Puyallup, Washington; daughter, Arlene (Simon) of San Francisco; brother, Shigeo (Yaeko) of Honolulu; sisters, Haruko Tagawa of Honolulu, Nobuko (George) Shimamoto of Kealakekua and Toshiko (Dave) Fusato of Cerritos, California; three nieces and five nephews.

Alroy Begas

Alroy William Begas, 41, died Aug. 2, 2020. Born in Hilo, he worked at Leo’s Rubbish and Suisan.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by girlfriend, Tita Kunewa; sons, Kanalu Kunewa and Austyn Kunewa; father, Leroy Santos of Hilo; mother, Tammy Begas of Mississippi; sisters, Regina (Robert) Leivan and Hernel Tisalona; brothers, Pau Tisalona and Brandion Tisalona, both of Honolulu; nephews and nieces and family and friends.

Takie Nagami

Takie Nagami, 93, of Hilo, died Oct. 18, 2020, at her residence in Hilo. Born Jan. 2, 1927, in Wainaku, she was a retired clerk for the State of Hawaii and a member of the Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple.

Private services held. No flowers. The family requests no koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by sister, Tammy Nagami, of Hilo.

Fukuko Pfeiffer

Fukuko Pfeiffer, 83, of Hilo, died Nov. 10, 2020, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kyoto, Japan, she was a homemaker.

Private services.

She is survived by daughters, Sandra Arseneault of Middletown, New York, Theresa (Thomas) Perino of Smithtown, New York, and Christine (Michael Kelley) Periatt of Volcano; son, Stephen Pfeiffer of St. Joseph, Illinois; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Shirley Agudo

Shirley Acoba Agudo, 61, of Papaikou, died Sept. 29, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a factory worker at Big Island Candies and a member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Papaikou.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Nov. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial at Alae Cemetery (New Section) at 12:30 p.m.

She is survived husband, Loreto Agudo of Papaikou; son, Allan Jay of Papaikou; daughters, Lorielei Agudo and Everly Agudo, both of Honolulu; numerous brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
