MONTREAL - A veteran of 850 NHL games and owner of a Stanley Cup ring from 2013 with Chicago, forward Michael Frolik signed a one-year deal with the Canadiens. On Monday, he spoke to reporters via Zoom conference call to discuss the deal and his connection to Montreal.
Read on for highlights of what he had to say:
On signing with the Canadiens, his familiarity with the city, and who he knows in the room:
"I know the city a little bit, so I know how Montreal is. It's an unbelievable city with the hockey history and everything, and it's just a pleasure to be part of this team. I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to meeting all the coaches and players and getting ready to start.
"I know Tomas Tatar a little bit and I work out here with [Jonathan] Drouin, so I know him a little bit. And Benny Chiarot, I played with him in Winnipeg, so there are a couple of familiar faces.
"Almost my entire career, I was coming here to Montreal to train before every season. [Drouin and I] had the same trainer, and we used the same ice here. So, I've spent some time in the gym with him and on the ice as well."

The veteran of 850 NHL games describes his game and what he brings to the table:
"Over the years, I've proven that I'm a player who can play both ends of the game. I think I can be solid offensively, but I can be good defensively as well. The penalty kill was kind of a big part of my game the last couple of years, and I think I can make some improvements on that on this team and be good on the PK. But they used to call me a Swiss Army Knife player; I can do a lot of things and just be good on that. I think the PK was struggling a little bit last year and I just want to jump on that and make this team better there."
On joining a stacked and deep roster and having to battle for a spot in the lineup:
"My first year when I started in the NHL, I was scratched for the first three games and then I jumped in and ended up with 20 goals. Things can turn around or change very quickly in this League. I'll be working hard, waiting for my chance."
On veteran forward Corey Perry, who signed with the Canadiens a few days after Frolik:
"When he was in Anaheim, I saw him play often. When he and [Ryan] Getzlaf were in their prime, they were among the best duos in the League. I know he's great around the net, on the powerplay, in front of the net... he's one of the best in the League over there. You can see what he did in the playoffs for Dallas last year, scoring those big goals and being around that net. That's what he brings."
