Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Shri Krishna is the ninth incarnation of Shri Vishnu said to be born in the Dwapar Yuga. As per the Hindu calendar, the occasion of Shree Krishna Janmashtami is observed in the Bhadrapada month on the eighth day (Ashtami tithi) of Krishna Paksha. According to the Gregorian calendar, the festival usually falls in August-September in the Rohini Nakshatra.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami date varies every year. However, this year, Krishna Janmashtami will be observed today on Monday, August 30, 2021.

It is said that this year, devotees shall commemorate the 5248th birth anniversary of the deity. The Ashtami tithi begins at 11:25 pm on Aug 29, 2021, and ends at 01:59 am on Aug 31, 2021.

Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Rohini Nakshatra

As per the Hindu Puranas, it is believed that Lord Shree Krishna was born on Ashtami Rohini (the eighth Lunar Day when the moon in the Rohini Nakshatra). However, this year, Rohini Nakshatra begins at 06:39 am on Aug 30, 2021, and ends at 09:44 am on Aug 31, 2021.

Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Nishita Puja time

Krishna puja is performed during the Nishita Kala (midnight). This year, Nishita puja time is from 11:59 pm to 12:44 am on Aug 31, 2021. (Duration: 00 hours 45 mins)

Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Dahi Handi

Dahi Handi is one of the most interesting and significant aspects of Shree Krishna Janmashtami. Devotees celebrate the Dahi Handi festival on the next day of Krishna Janam, where teams of young people break the earthen pot (Handi) which is filled with curd (Dahi), by forming a pyramid. This year, Dahi Handi falls on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Parana Time

One can break the fast after 9:44 am on August 31. However, if one cannot wait so long, the alternate Parana time is after 5:59 AM, August 31.

At many places in India, Parana is done after Nishita i.e. Hindu midnight. Parana as per modern tradition in society Parana timing is after 12:44 am, Aug 31, 2021.
