Crossroads’ first Born Learning Trail set to launch

VICTORIA, Texas – On Friday, Aug. 27, the United Way of the Crossroads, TrustTexas Bank and Victoria Parks invite the public to the launching of the Crossroads’ first Born Learning Trail. The launch will begin at 5 p.m. at Will Rogers Park, located at 1108 E. Warren. The new outdoor trail will assist parents and caregivers with supporting early education for young children. For those attending, games and giveaways will be provided at no cost.

The Born Learning Trail, sponsored by TrustTexas Bank, is a series of learning activities that any adult can play with young children. A bank representative said, “We hope the Born Learning Trail will help our community do even more to get kids off to the right start.”

Crossroads’ first Born Learning Trail to launch on Friday – Covid-19 pandemic hits children the hardest

During the Covid-19 pandemic, young children were hit the hardest by virtual learning. The trail is built to help adults interact with children to boost language and literacy development. It will also help caregivers understand how to best support early learning in outdoor, everyday moments.

“Research tells us that children are literally born learning” said United Way of the Crossroads Executive Director, Brooke Garcia. “We know that what happens in a child’s early years matters for success in life and for school readiness.”

Recently, Will Rogers Park has been remodeled as part of the City of Victoria Parks’ revitalization efforts.

“Victoria Parks and Recreation is excited to partner with the United Way and Trust Texas Bank to promote learning and fun through the Born Learning Trail at Will Rogers Park,” said Kimberly Zygmant, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. “This trail intentionally creates learning opportunities for families through play and exploration in the outdoors.”

The United Way of the Crossroads and the City of Victoria’s partnership will also benefit community members in many ways.

On Friday, a dedication address will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Born Learning Trail kickoff event.
