Today In Star Wars History: Alan Ladd Jr is born - Fantha Tracks

We want to wish a big Happy 84th Birthday to the man who made Star Wars possible – Alan Ladd Jr.

After every major studio in Hollywood rejected George Lucas’ Star Wars script, Alan Ladd Jr. (or “Laddie”) pushed to have it made at 20th Century Fox where he was President of the film division. Lucas said that “Laddie invested in me, he did not invest in the movie.”

Why did Laddie believe in George? We share a great Starlog magazine interview with the explanation.

In 1979 Ladd left 20th Century Fox to start his own production company, The Ladd Company, which produced Chariots of Fire (1981), Blade Runner (1982) and Braveheart (1995). The documentary, Laddie: The Man Behind the Movies (2017) follows his childhood growing up with an actor father and his career as told by his daughter Amanda Ladd-Jones.
