We send happy birthday wishes in the direction of national championship winning football coach Lou Holtz today as he turns 85 years old. Holtz of course guided Notre Dame to the 1988 national title with signature wins that year coming over Michigan, Miami (FL), USC, and West Virginia.
Holtz is the only head coach to ever lead four different football programs to top 20 finishes, having done so with North Carolina State, Arkansas, Notre Dame, and South Carolina.
Holtz went 100-30-2 in his time at Notre Dame from 1986-1996 and four times in that span the Fighting Irish finished ranked in the top ten.
Altogether he went 249-132-7 during his stints at William & Mary, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina.
