This quote is from February 24th, 2022, spoken by Ed Donatell, the new defensive coordinator for the Vikings. Along with Wes Phillips and Matt Daniels, head coach Kevin O’Connell introduced Donatell among his new lieutenants.

Foremost, Donatell’s speech was wonderful, blending enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport. Before he arrived the Vikings, most fans knew Donatell was a seasoned veteran coach — he’s been coaching football for 43 years — but that’s about it. He was a resume.
After Thursday, he’s the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings.
The two lightning words from the quote above are young and progressive. Donatell isn’t necessarily young, so his embracement of youthful leaders is refreshing. Sometimes under the previous regime, the Vikings felt like the gridiron version of Tommy Lee Jones in No Country for Old Men, trying to understand a sport that passed everyone by.
With Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Kevin O’Connell, and Donatell’s endorsement of the “new way” of doing things, the Vikings are suddenly new school after eight years of hardnosed oldschoolism.
