BTS singer V turns 27 today! From India to New York, how ARMY is celebrating Kim Taehyung's birthday - Economic Times

Fans of BTS across the world are in celebration mode, not because the year is coming to an end and they are gearing up for 2023, but December 30th is a special day as it marks V, aka Kim Taehyung's birthday.

The singer turned 27 years old today. On the occasion of K-pop idol's birthday, fans, fondly known as the ARMY, have taken to streets to turn the world purple.

In India itself, BTS fans in Kolkata put an LED ad on top of Vardaan Mall in Park Street to wish V a very happy birthday. In several places, food trucks are serving Korean food across Kolkata.

Apart from India, several other places across the world also lit up to celebrate V's birthday. Peru held a sound and light show near a fountain to mark the day and begin the celebrations.

Whereas the international ARMY also organised events. In New York, a birthday ad was placed at the One World Trade Centre which was organised by the pop star's China fan base.

Meanwhile, BTS star Jin has already started his mandatory South Korean military duty, the band's first member to enlist since a hiatus announcement this year left fans heartbroken over the K-pop juggernaut's uncertain future. The septet is widely considered the country's biggest-ever cultural phenomenon, selling out stadiums around the world and dominating the charts while raking in billions and building a global legion of fans known as ARMYs. But all able-bodied men in South Korea must serve at least 18 months in the military and, while there was a years-long debate about whether BTS deserved an exemption, they confirmed in October that all members will enlist.

Jin -- whose full name is Kim Seok-jin -- reported to a frontline boot camp in Yeoncheon on Tuesday to begin his five-week training, kickstarting 18 months of military service.

Jin, the oldest member of BTS – which also consists of Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, turned 30 on December 4.
