In the 2022 film, Vengeance, a resident of a nowhere town in Texas is asked to describe where he lives by a New Yorker. Ty the Texan responds, “This is the most wretched, godforsaken stretch of land on the face of the earth. And I’d never leave.”
Ben the New Yorker (played by writer/director B.J. Novak) answers, “Yeah. That’s how I feel about Twitter.”
Not only is that a funny line, but it’s also true for a lot of people. It made me wonder how many people’s primary residence now is online. They work here. It’s where their friends are. It’s where their enemies are. It’s where they play and rest and get worked up and worship. The question is, at this point, could they ever leave?
(BTW, I would recommend the film. Even though the role of Texas is played by New Mexico.)
