When contacted on Thursday night, via text messages, we asked trainer Tom Amoss — who has two of the top horses in both the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes and the G2 Risen Star Stakes — how his horses were doing within hours of their next appointed preps for the first weekend in May.
The undefeated filly, Hoosier Philly, will be the focus in the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes. She is undefeated going into her first start as a 3YO on Saturday, with a perfect 3-for-3 record. And, while most believe she will be pointed to the G1 Kentucky Oaks on Friday, the filly is nominated for the Triple Crown, and could be a consideration to run against the boys later this Spring.
The rising star, Curly Jack, will be a horse to watch in the G2 Risen Star Stakes, the highlight of the program at the Fair Grounds on Saturday. The 3YO won his first start as a 3YO in impressive fashion in the G3 Lecomte Stakes at the Fair Grounds about a month ago.
We asked: “Everything looking good for the weekend? Just checking…”
Amoss, one of the most affable and courteous people in the profession, immediately wrote back: “Yes, all good.”
Heads up.
All is good now.
All could be great on Saturday night.
