Quote of the Day: Satire - Ricochet.com

“The trouble about writing satire is that the real world always anticipates you, and what were meant for exaggeration turn out to be nothing of the sort.” — C.S. Lewis, 1945

Ten years ago, I would joke that, come the revolution, I would identify as a lesbian woman. It was a joke intended to get a rise out of my dad who was an ardent Democrat. He always defended whatever their latest crazy position was, even if he hated it. In the early teens that boundary was transgenderism — that you could “become” someone of the opposite sex (as opposed to being attracted to the same sex) simply by wishing it so. I insisted that while someone could be attracted to the same sex, that did not make you the opposite sex, any more than my claiming I was a Napoleonic grenadier could make me a Napoleonic grenadier. But it was the latest Democrat “thing” so Dad had to support it.

Well, surprise, surprise. Nowadays, if I claimed that, people would have to take me seriously. We have men pretending to be women winning  “woman of the year” awards, beating women in sports contests, and snagging endorsements for beer, booze, and women’s products. My satire of 2013 has become the reality of 2023. Men make the best women today. You’ve come a long way, baby. Except don’t even think about smoking that cigarette just for you. In the most socially “progressive” places, even if you are outside.

It is not just transgenderism. Fascists can call themselves antifascists and have to be taken seriously. Crime is due to systemic racism, not thugs being thugs. The Green movement is destroying the environment in order to save the environment. All religions are equal in the eyes of the law, but some are more equal than others.

I really feel sorry for professional comedians and satirists today. They have to conform to politically acceptable humor or risk cancellation. Worse still, for those willing to risk cancellation, they literally cannot exaggerate enough that what they exaggerate will not be true in another six months. Babylon Bee is no longer a satire site. It has become a prophecy site.

Welcome to the nuthouse, boys and girls. Even if you are a boy pretending to be a girl or a girl pretending to be a boy.
