UCHealth Greeley Hospital unveiled a one-of-a-kind lullaby in September that will serve as an official welcome to the world for each baby born at the hospital.

The name of the song is “A First Breath: Welcome to the World,” and it was composed by Dylan Fixmer, the composer-in-residence with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. It is meant to celebrate a new baby and bring joy to lives, whether it be a family celebrating their new addition, other patients, or staff, physicians and volunteers.

After every birth, the hospital’s birth center team presses a “magic button,” and the song plays overhead in the hospital’s hallways and common areas. Fixmer said he hopes it will give everyone a moment to pause for peace, hope and a reminder to smile, no matter what they are doing and where they are in their life journey.

“We wanted original — we wanted something that was Greeley,” Greeley Hospital President Marilyn Schock said.

Violinist Sarah Off and cellist Mathieu D’Ordine, the musicians who recorded the song, performed the song for hospital staff shortly before it was aired overhead for the first time.

The hospital is on track to deliver 800 babies in 2023, so this sweet song is expected to get a lot of airtime, Schock said.
