From pre-Christian myths, folktales, poems and stories, Santa Claus, as we know him today, evolved into a character who debuted in an ad campaign by Coca Cola in 1931. From that commercial beginning grew the corporate greed and mindless consumption that characterizes Christmas today.
For Christians, it is the day that Jesus was born. We forget His humanity; he was both the Son of God and a human being just like us. In his human, body He suffered the same pains and humiliations that we do.
For those who no longer believe in what has come to be called "the Christmas Myth", can't we recognize, at least, the symbolism of this special story, no matter what we believe or don't believe?
