DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) -- The woman behind the camera of a touching viral video of a bride dancing with her terminally ill father tells News 5 the day started off just like any other wedding she's ever worked.
But photographer Cindy McCrory is close with the family, so she knew about Jim Roberts' condition.
"We had this whole parallel story going on when we were trying to be all happy at this wedding," she said. McCrory runs Blue Room Photography in Daphne.
The video of bride Mary Bourne Roberts, now Mrs. James Butts, dancing with her father reached people across the entire world. McCrory said people in Europe and Asia reached out to her about the video.
In May of 2017, Jim was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a highly aggressive brain tumor, and each day, the family wondered whether he would make it to Mary Bourne's wedding.
Well, he did - but then for a long period of time during the reception, there was no sign of him. The itinerary hit the point of the father-daughter dance, but still no sign of him, according to McCrory.
"[But] all of a sudden he just appeared," she said. "Mary Bourne just pulled him right out and he showed and so that's where it was."
The family is hoping to raise awareness about Jim's illness, and encourage people to donate to the American Brain Tumor Association.
