Mark Ruffalo and Marvel Fans Honor Stan Lee on What Would've Been His 99th Birthday - MovieWeb

The legendary Stan Lee would be celebrating his 99th birthday today, and to mark the occasion, he's getting lots of love from Marvel colleagues and fans. Lee, revered for the part he played in helping to create many iconic characters through his work with Marvel Comics, sadly passed away in 2018 at the age of 95. He had been frequently appearing in Marvel projects prior to his death and his presence has been badly missed ever since.

Leading the way with the fan tributes online is a message posted to the official Twitter account for Stan Lee. It reads: "Today, Stan would have turned 99. The colorful characters & thrilling tales he created captivate & entertain fans & will do so for generations to come. To celebrate his birthday, share your favorite Stan story, sighting, cameo or comicbook with us & we'll retweet a few!"

"Thinking of Stan Lee and everything he’s done for our extended Marvel family today," writes Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Hulk was originally created by Lee and Jack Kirby, first appearing in Marvel Comics in 1962.

Countless fans are also paying tribute. One tweet reads, "Never got to meet Stan Lee, but the impact he’s had on my life cannot be understated. Thinking of this pure genius on his birthday today. Happy 99th."

Another fan included a fitting quote from Captain America star Chris Evans. It says, "There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives..."

And comic writer Tony Isabella tweeted: "THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY: Stan Lee. The characters he created or co-created. His stories. His amazing dialogue. The conversations we had over the years. The things I learned from him. I believe I owe more to him than any other person in my life. Excelsior!"

The great Stan Lee's work is still inspiring new stories years after his death. It was just recently announced that a new horror universe created by Lee would be brought to the screen by Timur Bekmambetov. We of course know Lee best for his most iconic superhero creations, and this project will allow for fans to see more of the creator's darker side as well.

"Some fans may not know this, but Stan Lee wrote several horror comic book series in the 1940s and 1950s before superhero comics became big in the 1960s,” said Gill Champion, POW! Entertainment’s president. “Stan relished revisiting the genre a few years ago when he wrote these stories, and we are excited to bring them to life with a director as visionary as Timur Bekmambetov. We think fans will be surprised to experience a darker side of Stan Lee that they’ve never witnessed before!”

Happy heavenly birthday to Stan Lee. While he may no longer be here with us, his legacy lives on, and the world as we know it today would be a lot different if not for Lee and his work. You can read more about the late legend by visiting his official website at TheRealStanLee.com.
