NEW YORK (NBC) — As floats with iconic cartoon characters soared by during the Thanksgiving Day Parade, one performance made waves on the internet and, according to a cast member, even made history.
The cast of the new Broadway musical “The Prom” performed during the Macy’s parade but their dance moves caught attention when actresses Caitlin Kinnunen and Isabelle McCalla embraced and kissed.
A cast member said it was the first kiss between a lesbian couple broadcast during the Macy's holiday event.
“The first #LGBTQ kiss in the Parade’s history. We here at@ThePromMusical have never been so proud. #LoveIsLove”
The story of “The Prom” centers around a high school student in Indiana who wasn’t allowed to bring her girlfriend to prom.
There were quite a bit of reactions on the internet about the kiss.

Another person tweeted, “The #macysthanksgivingdayparade just showed two girls kissing during Broadway showcase performance of The Prom.
You know - I'm thankful for #20gayteen. I finally live in a world where national TV isn't ashamed to show this on a wildly broadcasted event. #representationmatters”
But not everyone was on board.
The group called “For America” tweeted, “Millions of small children just watched two girls kiss and had their innocence broken this morning. @nbc and @Macys just blindsided parents who expected this to be a family program, so they could push their agenda on little kids. #macysthanksgivingdayparade #MacysD
